This course is designed for those who have already completed KS3 Latin. It will serve as a complement to the teaching of GCSE Latin in Years 10 and 11, or as useful revision before the sitting of the examination.
The focus of this course shall be improving practical translation skills through unseen passages, taken from either ‘Latin Stories’ and other relevant resources for GCSE. Learners will be tasked with helping each other piece together unfamiliar passages of Latin, with the teacher on hand to provide explicit grammar instruction as and when it is needed. The teacher will also offer practical tips on how to approach unseen translation and identify common pitfalls.
This collaborative approach will ensure different ability levels are accommodated, and learners will feel able to participate in a supportive environment, learning from each other regardless of their current progress in the course. Learners who are only just starting the GCSE, for example, may be sent additional vocabulary ‘glosses’ to boost their confidence when tackling passages which feature unfamiliar vocabulary.
